One of the most common problems of the Xbox 360 is the famous red ring of death. It’s a problem that happens so often that the gaming community gave it that nickname. What happens is that the 3 of the 4 red lights that are around the power button turn from green to red and start flashing. This will also make your console stop working and, unless you can perform an Xbox 360 3 light fix, you won’t be able to play any games.

As you may have noticed, the so called red ring of death isn’t really a ring at all, since only 3 of the lights turn red while the fourth one stays off. Needless to say, it’s one of the most annoying technical problems of the Xbox 360.

There are a few basic precautions to reduce the probability of the red ring of death happening to your Xbox 360 and to avoid having to perform an Xbox 360 3 light fix. First, don’t place your Xbox 360 next to heat source. One very common mistake some gamers make is to place their Xbox 360 next to their other gaming consoles, which cause them to heat each other.

Another common mistake is to block the Xbox 360 ventilation holes. This usually happens because the console is placed inside a piece of furniture that blocks the holes. Make sure that your console gets plenty of space so that its fans are able to work properly and keep the heat down.

Finally, take the trouble of cleaning those holes from time to time. Sometimes dust or dirt block the holes or get into your system through them and damage the hardware.

Once you get the problem, however, your console needs to be repaired. You can send it to Microsoft, where they will take 3 or 4 weeks to perform an Xbox 360 3 light fix (depending on where you live, it might even take longer, or the service might not be available at all). Or you can fix it yourself in one hour, ok, two if you want to take it easy.
